It is a traditional dance performed in Mangalore and Udupi. It is performed during Navratri to honor the goddess Durga who rides on the tiger. Young men form a group and are trained to perform pilivesha.
They paint their body like a tiger or cheetah and use thaase(drums) for music on which they dance. They roam in the streets of their town, perform dance in front of the houses, shops, etc., and collect money from the people.
