It is a religious festival, starts with hoisting of a flag with a picture of Garuda over the temple. It is a symbolic invitation to everyone to attend the festival. Various poojas will be offered to god during this time. This is the occasion where the main deity is bought out of the temple. Also, Bali pradharshana, Pallakki seve etc., idols are placed in the chariots standing in front of the temple.
Later, chariots are traditionally pulled by thousands of devotees over a distance. Thousands of locals and regional devotees, leaders will take part in this festival. During this time, several cultural programs will be organized such as Yakshagana, Pravachana, Harikatha etc.,
