Pilikula is located at Vamanjoor, the eastern part of Mangalore city in Karnataka, managed by the District Administration of Dakshina Kannada. Pili means ‘Tiger’ and Kula means ‘Pond’. There is a saying that long ago Tigers were approaching a pond at this place later on called Pilikula.
An integrated theme park with a wide variety of
features, Pilikula has many attractions of cultural, educational and scientific
interest. The park is spread over an area of 370 acres comprising a tropical
forest and the enchanting Pilikula Lake.
Botanical Garden
and Arboretum: A number of species endemic to the Western Ghats
are now endangered due to human invasion and urbanization. Under the Indo
Norwegian Environment programme, an arboretum has been developed in about 80
acres of land. Here plants of more than 235 endangered species have been
planted and maintained.
Zoo: A significant Biological Park is established in Pilikula
NisargaDhama has a major focus on the wildlife species of Western Ghats. The park
is named as Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological Park. The park consists of an area
of 82 hectares. Today Pilikula Zoo has 400 animals, reptiles and birds and most
of the species are breeding.
Science centre: The Science Centre is set up in an area of about 10 acres, has a built-up area of approx. 4000 sq.m. It houses 3 exhibition galleries, a temporary exhibition hall, an inflatable dome planetarium, science demonstration area, activity area, an air-conditioned auditorium, a 3D theatre facility, library, conference hall, computer room, a small workshop for maintenance of exhibits and other public facilities. There is also a Science Park in the lush green garden area outside the Science Centre building, which includes a Dinosaur Park. The latest addition is a Planetarium of nano seam dome with a diameter of 18m, tilted at 15o having a hybrid projection system and with an active 3D facility. This is first of its kind in the Country.
Heritage village: Tulunad culture is displayed here. Ancient house exhibiting various ancient Tulunad traditions, culture, dance forms, pottery, handicrafts, cuisine etc.
Manasa Amusement and Water Park: This is an ideal park spread over the 12 acres of land.
It is situated at a distance of 12 km from Mangalore within the vicinity of
Pilikula Nisarga Dhama. This is one of the best amusement parks in the city of Mangalore and is frequented by both tourists and locals. Manasa Amusement and Water Park welcome us with fountains; suitable for people of all ages. It has a family pool where the whole family can enjoy by sliding together in a single float in the river-ride slide. Multiplay system at Manasa gives a total thrill to the kids. Landing pool gives an excitement to
kids, teens, youngsters and adults.
